about making the CD
I had thought for a long time that it would be fun to make a solo clarinet album. This was the right time, and I did it with five phenomenal musicians who also happen to be great friends. Tom Andrews and Reuben Ristrom have been with me in the Upper Mississippi Jazz Band since the beginning; Tom Chepokas joined us in recent years. Tom Andrews and Steve Pikal are long-time regulars with the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band.
While I am probably best known for the traditional New Orleans or Dixieland Jazz that I love, I am equally excited by the many voices of the clarinet and the widely varied moods and feelings I can express through it. On this album you’ll hear some wonderful ballads, swinging up-tunes, and a touch of Latin jazz rhythms. These are tunes I like to play and most of which are familiar to all of us. I sincerely hope you will enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed playing them for you.
